Our Committment to the Fiordland Environment

Our kayaking home is in one of the last true wilderness areas int he worldt, so the protection of the Fiordland environment and its inhabitants has also always been fundamental to our business.

We have always done and continue to do the following:

  • we make decisions where the environment comes before profit;
  • we work with the Department of Conservation and Environment Southland, beyond the requirements of compliance, spending considerable time writing submissions from a kayaking and conservation perspective;
  • as a pilot in Sustainable Tourism South (Environment and Tourism Ministries), we are working on maximising energy efficiencies, reducing fuel consumption and emissions, minimising and managing waste, pollution prevention;
  • we are members of NZ Forest & Bird;
  • in Doubtful Sound we have an ongoing stoat trapping project, dealing to an introduced predator decimating our highly vulnerable bird populations;
  • we have a non-extractive policy on our guided tours;
