Southern Fiords
SEA KAYAKING IN THE SOUTHERN FIORDS
A 5 day kayak trip assisted by a Real Journeys overnight vessel.
Each day is spent exploring the shoreline by sea kayak, returning
to the comfort of our support vessel for evening meals and
accommodation.
The southern fiords of Tamatea and Matuku-Waitai are rich in Maori
and European history including residence by Captain Cook in the
1700's. Home to varied and abundant marine life - seabirds, fur
seals, penguins, dusky, common and bottlenose dolphins. The use of
offshore islands for saving threatened bird species was pioneered
here in the late 1800's by Richard Henry, New Zealand's first
conservation officer.
SCHEDULING:
Offered during May and August only.
